Woodchucks

In 2002 a Woodchuck decided to make it's residence underneath my pumphouse. By default it was named "Woody." The following spring it gave a good argument for a name change when she emerged with three babies under her watchful eye. A week after the woodchucks appeared, the entire family disappeared. A few weeks later, when they showed up again, there were only two little ones. The reddish one was quite precocious and inquisitive, the other more cautious. Watching the baby woodchucks growing provided much entertainment that summer. so here are some woodchuck pictures for you!

Woodchuck Mamma & Babe

This is a picture of a baby woodchuck's first day out in the real world. As you can see, it is more interested in it's Mamma.

Baby Woodchuck - the timid one

this is the more timid of the two woodchuck youngun's.

The Inquiry

I can imagine the dialog going on here... "What's that I smell on your breath?" "It's just clover, Mom. Honest!"

Don't Worry!

Something seems to be on the mind of this young woodchuck. What could it be? Perhaps it is worried about the possibility of world peace within its lifetime.

On The Watch

A young Woodchuck. This is only the second or third day that it has been able to go outside it's burrow.

The Conference

The rain has ended and two young woodchucks confer as to what sort of mischief they can get into next.

Cute Lucy

The reddish coloring of this woodchuck earned it the name of Lucy. Inquisitive and independant it finds great joy in munching the clover

Woodchuck Siblings

A pair of woodchuck babies look out upon the world
